Update 11/28/16: Disney ran a Disney World cast member preview of the Animal Kingdom Rivers of Light show last night and WDW News Today was there. Visit here for their review of the show (including spoilers).
Update 10/13/16: Once again, WDW News Today is doing a great job leading the pack in reporting on the Animal Kingdom Rivers of Light show, as they gave us all the heads up today that there are strong indications of a debut around May 1st. They deduced the May 1st start date based on the Rivers of Light Dining Package page showing availability starting then. Disney has since taken the page down. I will certainly be updating this post again once an official announcement is made..
Update 9/22/16: WDW News Today reported today that the Disney World rumor mill has the Animal Kingdom Rivers of Light show opening sometime in October-November this year. It’s been delayed for quite sometime, but judging by all the descriptions and first-hand accounts of what the show will be, it should be worth the wait!
Update 4/18/16: WDW News Today reported today that Rivers of Light was a glaring omission from Disney’s press materials for new Summer events and attractions. They hypothesize that there are some pretty significant technical or physical setbacks holding up the opening of the eagerly anticipated nighttime attraction.
The good news is that it looks like most of the new nighttime activities at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will be opening soon including nighttime rides on the Kilimanjaro Safari, the Tree of Life lighting and festivities and the opening of their new restaurant, Tiffins.
I’ll be continuing to keep an eye out for further news on Rivers of Light and will post more updates here.
Original Post: 4/5/16:
Disney announced today that their various nighttime attractions at the Animal Kingdom, which were scheduled to open April 22nd, have been delayed.
No new open date was offered, but the announcement mentioned that an update on the timing will be shared in mid-late May.
Disney’s new Nighttime Experiences at Animal Kingdom include a number of light shows and festive parades. The marquis attraction will be the Rivers of Light show and another very exciting new element will be nighttime tours on the Kilimanjaro Safari.
Stay tuned and I will post any updates on open dates and other info as it becomes available. For anticipated open/reopen dates for other Walt Disney World attractions, be sure to visit here.
