It is shaping up to be a nice 2017 following up a record-breaking 2016 for Disney’s movie-making arm. After a monster showing for Beauty and the Beast, Disney’s latest Marvel offering, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2, is holding its own at the box office.

Forbes is reporting that Guardians raked in $35 million more this past weekend, bringing its total box office tally (domestic + global) to $732.6 million. It won’t likely cross the $1 billion mark that Beauty and the Beast crossed earlier this year, but it will more than likely eclipse the $773.3 million the original Guardians of the Galaxy movie grossed.

Update 5/31/17: Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 continues to perform at the box office. The sequel has now crossed $800 million globally which is enough to surpass the success of the original Guardians movie. It also puts the movie in rarefied air as the fifth Marvel movie to best $800 million joining The Avengers, Iron Man 3, Avengers: Age of Ultron and Captain America: Civil War. Not bad company to be in!
