Who is Ted Bedderhead?
Ted Bedderhead is a character from The Country Bears, a 2002 live-action musical comedy film based on the beloved Disney theme park attraction, Country Bear Jamboree.
Ted is one of the original members of the fictional band “The Country Bears,” a legendary group of anthropomorphic bear musicians. Known for his laid-back demeanor and smooth vocal style, Ted is the band’s bass player and a key figure in the group’s history. Despite his fame, like the other band members, Ted has moved on to a quieter life after the band disbanded years before the events of the film.
In the movie, young Beary Barrington—a bear who idolizes the band—sets out to reunite the group to save the Country Bear Hall, a venue central to their legacy, from being demolished. Beary’s journey takes him to each band member, including Ted, who initially resists but ultimately rejoins the group. Ted’s arc highlights themes of nostalgia, camaraderie, and the enduring power of music.
Ted Bedderhead was brought to life by puppeteers working under Jim Henson’s Creature Shop, with voice acting provided by the talented musician and actor Diedrich Bader.
