Who is Mayor Brian Winddancer?
Mayor Brian Winddancer is a new supporting character introduced in Zootopia 2, now playing in theaters. He’s a stallion and the current mayor of Zootopia, stepping into the role after the events of the first film.
Winddancer is very much an actor-turned-politician: he used to be an action star and still thinks of himself as the larger-than-life hero from his TV days. That background makes him charismatic and photogenic, but also a little clueless when it comes to actual governing, which becomes part of the film’s humor and tension as Judy and Nick’s latest case unfolds around City Hall.
Despite being initially used and manipulated by the powerful Lynxley family, Mayor Winddancer isn’t a straight-up villain. Over the course of the movie he’s forced to confront how badly he’s been puppeteered and how his ego and naiveté have put the city at risk. By the climax he’s working to make things right and becomes more of an ally than an obstacle.
Mayor Brian Winddancer is voiced by Patrick Warburton, whose distinct deep, deadpan delivery you might recognize from roles like Kronk in The Emperor’s New Groove and Joe Swanson on Family Guy.
