zootopia 2 home videoZootopia 2” has delivered another major win for Disney, this time on streaming.

The Walt Disney Company said the animated sequel reached 32 million views globally in its first seven days on Disney+, making it the No. 1 film on the service during its premiere week. The debut gives Disney one more milestone for a franchise that has already proven to be one of the company’s biggest modern animation brands, first in theaters and now on streaming.

Disney framed the performance as part of a much larger success story for the “Zootopia” universe. According to the company, “Zootopia,” “Zootopia+” and “Zootopia 2” have now been streamed for more than 885 million hours globally combined. That figure underscores how much staying power the property has built since the original film became a breakout hit nearly a decade ago.

The streaming result follows an enormous theatrical run for “Zootopia 2.” Disney said the film became the highest-grossing animated Motion Picture Association release of all time, with a worldwide total of $1.9 billion. The company also said it ranked as the No. 1 domestic release of 2025 and the eighth-highest-grossing film ever worldwide. Those numbers mean the Disney+ launch did not arrive as a second chance discovery story. Instead, it arrived after the sequel had already become a full-scale global box office event.

That context matters because it helps explain why the Disney+ debut is notable beyond a single week’s headline number. In many cases, strong streaming premieres reflect pent-up interest from viewers who skipped a movie in theaters. “Zootopia 2” appears to be doing something different: extending momentum for a title that was already one of Disney’s biggest theatrical releases. For Disney, that is especially valuable as the company continues to lean on major franchises that can perform across multiple parts of the business.

The original “Zootopia” remains a key part of that story. Disney noted that the first film ranks as the No. 7 movie on Disney+ of all time and has been among the most-streamed movies across all platforms in the United States in three of the past six years, according to Nielsen. That long-tail audience demand has helped keep the franchise culturally relevant well beyond its 2016 theatrical release, and it likely gave the sequel a strong foundation heading into both its theatrical and streaming windows.

There is also a broader Disney ecosystem angle here. The company has continued to expand “Zootopia” beyond film and television, most visibly through the themed land at Shanghai Disney Resort. Disney has highlighted that land’s popularity, along with strong consumer products demand tied to the franchise. Taken together, the latest Disney+ performance suggests “Zootopia” is no longer just a successful animated title. It is now one of Disney’s most durable cross-platform brands.

For Disney+, the result is another useful data point as the company tries to show the value of high-profile exclusive debuts on the service. A 32 million-view first week gives Disney a clear promotional win and reinforces the importance of premium family titles in driving attention on the platform.

More importantly, it confirms that “Zootopia 2” was not a one-format hit. After dominating the box office, the sequel has now opened at the top of Disney+ as well, giving Disney one of the clearest signs yet that the franchise still has plenty of runway.
