“Incredibles 3” gets a June 16, 2028 release date

Pixar’s “Incredibles 3” now has an official theatrical release date, with Disney setting the long-awaited sequel for June 16, 2028. The date was announced during The Walt Disney Company’s 2026 Annual Meeting of Shareholders, where CEO Josh D’Amaro outlined several upcoming studio releases and confirmed that the next chapter in Pixar’s superhero franchise will arrive in summer 2028.

That announcement gives “Incredibles 3” its most concrete milestone yet. Disney and Pixar first revealed the film was in development during D23 in August 2024, when Pixar chief creative officer Pete Docter told fans that the studio’s super-powered Parr family would return for another movie. At the time, the project was still in the early stages, with Brad Bird identified as developing the film. Since then, official details have remained limited, making the release date the biggest update the movie has received so far.
The June 16, 2028 launch also says something about how Disney is positioning the sequel. A mid-June release puts “Incredibles 3” squarely in prime summer movie season, the same general window where family event films and major Pixar titles often aim to dominate theaters. It is a strong placement for a franchise that remains one of Pixar’s most commercially powerful properties. “The Incredibles” was a major hit in 2004, and “Incredibles 2” became an even bigger box office success in 2018, showing that audience demand for the Parr family remained high even after a long gap between films.
That history helps explain why the date matters beyond simple scheduling. Pixar has spent the past few years balancing original films with carefully chosen franchise continuations, and “Incredibles 3” clearly falls into the latter category. It is one of the studio’s most recognizable brands, with a built-in multigenerational audience and a premise that still feels flexible enough to support both action spectacle and family comedy. In other words, this is not a sequel Disney is slotting onto the calendar casually. It is being treated like one of the studio’s major theatrical plays for 2028.
For now, though, Disney is keeping the creative specifics close to the vest. No plot details were announced alongside the release date, and the company has not publicly confirmed returning cast members in its latest update. That leaves plenty of open questions, including whether the new film will pick up directly after “Incredibles 2,” how it might use Jack-Jack’s growing powers, and what kind of villain or larger conflict could drive the story this time. Brad Bird’s earlier involvement in development remains one of the key pieces of information fans have been holding onto since the initial announcement.
The release-date reveal also came as part of a broader Disney presentation that included another major sequel update: live-action “Lilo & Stitch 2” was set for May 26, 2028, just a few weeks before “Incredibles 3.” That scheduling places Pixar’s sequel in a notable summer corridor for Disney, with the company clearly planting flags well in advance for two well-known family properties.
For Pixar fans, the biggest takeaway is simple. After more than a year and a half of waiting since the film was first announced, “Incredibles 3” has moved from a development headline to a dated theatrical release. There is still a long road ahead before trailers, footage, and story details start arriving, but Disney has now made the timeline official. On June 16, 2028, the Parr family is scheduled to return to theaters.
