Pixar’s ‘Hoppers’ stays No. 1 in the U.K. and Ireland as ‘Reminders of Him’ opens in second

Disney and Pixar’s “Hoppers” is showing real staying power overseas, holding onto the No. 1 spot at the U.K. and Ireland box office in its second weekend.
According to Variety, the animated original remained the top title in the market, adding $3.1 million for the frame and keeping first place even as new competition arrived. Universal’s “Reminders of Him,” based on the Colleen Hoover novel, debuted in the No. 2 position, giving the weekend a notable new challenger but not enough to push “Hoppers” out of the lead.
That hold matters for Disney because “Hoppers” is not a franchise sequel arriving with built-in brand recognition on the level of a “Toy Story” or “Inside Out.” Instead, it is an original Pixar release, the kind of film that often depends on word of mouth and week-to-week steadiness rather than just a big opening. A second straight weekend at No. 1 in the U.K. and Ireland suggests the film is finding an audience beyond its launch and keeping momentum as March playability becomes increasingly important.
Pixar has positioned “Hoppers” as one of its more unusual recent originals. The film follows Mabel, an animal lover who uses new technology to “hop” her consciousness into a lifelike robotic beaver so she can communicate directly with animals. As Pixar and Disney have described it, the movie blends comedy, environmental themes and a stranger-than-usual premise even by animation standards. That kind of concept can take longer to click with general audiences than a familiar sequel, which makes a market hold like this especially encouraging.
The U.K. and Ireland result also lines up with other signs that the film has opened on solid footing. In North America, “Hoppers” also held the top box office position in its second weekend, bringing in $28.5 million domestically and reaching $164.7 million worldwide at that point, according to the Associated Press. While those are separate markets, the pattern is similar: the film is not collapsing after opening weekend, which is often one of the clearest indicators that an original family release has room to run.
That does not mean the road ahead is simple. Original animation still faces a tougher theatrical environment than franchise entries, and upcoming releases will continue to compete for premium screens and family audiences. But the latest U.K. and Ireland result gives Disney a useful regional win at a time when every hold counts. For Pixar in particular, it is another sign that “Hoppers” may be building the kind of long-tail theatrical run that original animated titles often need.
The competitive backdrop makes the No. 1 finish more notable. “Reminders of Him” arrived with recognition from Hoover’s bestselling readership and enough interest to debut in second place, but “Hoppers” still stayed ahead. That suggests the Pixar title is benefiting from a combination of family turnout, positive reception and relatively broad demographic appeal, all of which are crucial for an original release trying to stretch its box office life.
For Disney, the result is less about one weekend headline and more about what it could signal over the next few weeks. If “Hoppers” can continue to hold well in key international markets like the U.K. and Ireland, it would strengthen the case that Pixar has another original capable of legging out in theaters rather than peaking immediately.
For now, that is the story: “Hoppers” is still on top, and in a crowded theatrical landscape, a second weekend at No. 1 is a meaningful result for Disney’s latest Pixar gamble.
