Gatto is a forthcoming original animated feature from Pixar, directed by Enrico Casarosa (known for Luca) and produced by Andrea Warren, with Pete Docter aboard as executive producer. Announced at the 2025 Annecy Animation Festival, the film is set to release in 2027.
Set against the dreamlike canals of Venice, Gatto introduces us to Nero, a black cat who’s grown weary of life’s whims-especially given his “nine lives.” When Nero finds himself owing a debt to a feline mob boss, he’s forced into unlikely circumstances. His path crosses with Maya, a street musician whose friendship may illuminate a new purpose for him-if Venice doesn’t sweep him away first.
Visually, the film marks a bold departure for Pixar. It embraces a richly hand‑painted, painterly animation style-a textured, almost living canvas that captures Venice’s character in a fresh, artistic expression.
