“Marvel’s Echo” is a Disney+ miniseries that delves into the complex journey of Maya Lopez, portrayed by Alaqua Cox. Introduced in “Hawkeye,” Maya is a deaf Native American with a prosthetic leg, known for her formidable combat skills and photographic reflexes. The series is set five months after the events of “Hawkeye,” in May 2025, and follows Maya as she returns to her hometown in Oklahoma to confront her past and reconnect with her Native American roots.

The narrative explores Maya’s internal struggle as she seeks to reconcile her violent history with a desire for redemption. Facing new challenges and old adversaries, including the enigmatic Kingpin (Vincent D’Onofrio), she must navigate complex family dynamics and cultural heritage. The series also features appearances by characters such as Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox), further intertwining with the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s street-level heroes.

“Marvel’s Echo” is notable for its authentic representation of Indigenous culture and the deaf community, with significant involvement from Native American writers and consultants. The series was released in its entirety on January 9, 2024, marking Marvel Studios’ first TV-MA rated series and the inaugural project under the “Marvel Spotlight” banner, which focuses on more mature, character-driven stories within the MCU.
