Who is Asha?
Asha is the central character in the 2023 Disney movie “Wish.” She is a 17-year-old girl living in the Kingdom of Rosas, which is located off of the Iberian Peninsula. Asha is depicted as an optimist with sharp wit, who deeply cares about her community.
The narrative unfolds when Asha senses a dark aura around the kingdom’s ruler, King Magnifico, which others seem oblivious to. This leads her to make a heartfelt plea to the stars during a moment of desperation. Remarkably, her plea is answered by an actual star from the sky, named Star, who descends to join her. The star reveals its magical ability to grant wishes, which entwines Asha in an adventure to combat the rising evil in Rosas and strive for a better future for her people.
Asha’s character is voiced by Ariana DeBose, and her journey in the movie encapsulates themes of hope, community, and the magic of wishes coming true, embodying a significant Disney narrative theme of wishes turning into reality.
