Who is Sir Bart?
Sir Bart is a minor character in Disney’s animated classic The Sword in the Stone (1963). He is one of the knights of King Arthur’s court, and his role, while small, adds to the atmosphere of the story’s medieval setting. Sir Bart is mostly remembered for his brief moments during the tournament scene where the legendary sword, Excalibur, is pulled from the stone.
The character is voiced by Thurl Ravenscroft, who was well-known for his deep and resonant voice. Ravenscroft is perhaps best remembered as the voice of Tony the Tiger in the Frosted Flakes commercials and for singing “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch” in How the Grinch Stole Christmas! His distinct, booming voice brought a sense of grandeur and humor to characters like Sir Bart, even in smaller roles.
In The Sword in the Stone, Sir Bart, along with other knights, reacts with awe and disbelief when Arthur, a young boy, manages to pull the sword from the stone, signaling that he is the rightful King of England.
