Who is Cassim?

Cassim is a character introduced in Aladdin and the King of Thieves, the third film in Disney’s Aladdin series. He is the father of Aladdin and the leader of the Forty Thieves, a notorious band of outlaws.

Cassim’s character brings new depth to Aladdin’s backstory, explaining some of the traits and motivations that Aladdin exhibits. Unlike his son, Cassim is drawn to adventure and treasures, which eventually led him away from his family, leaving Aladdin to grow up on his own.

Cassim returns to Agrabah in search of the powerful Oracle, a mystical artifact that can reveal any secret, as he hopes to find the “ultimate treasure.” This quest eventually reunites him with Aladdin, and through their encounters, Cassim grows to understand the value of family and redemption.

In the film, Cassim is voiced by the legendary actor John Rhys-Davies, known for his roles in Indiana Jones as Sallah and in The Lord of the Rings trilogy as Gimli.
