Who is Cliff Secord/The Rocketeer?
Cliff Secord, also known as The Rocketeer, is the main character in the 1991 Disney film The Rocketeer, based on the comic book series by Dave Stevens.
Cliff is a young, ambitious stunt pilot who stumbles upon an experimental jetpack developed by the U.S. government. Set in 1938 Los Angeles, the story follows Cliff as he transforms into a reluctant hero, using the jetpack to become the Rocketeer, a masked figure capable of incredible aerial feats. Cliff finds himself battling mobsters, Nazi spies, and corrupt government officials as he tries to protect his newfound identity and save his girlfriend, Jenny Blake.
Cliff Secord is portrayed by actor Billy Campbell in the 1991 film. Campbell brings a classic, charming quality to the role, embodying the spirit of an all-American hero from the golden age of aviation. Campbell’s portrayal captures Cliff’s courage, humility, and sense of adventure, making the character a beloved part of Disney’s roster of heroes.
