Who is Luong Lao Shi?
Luong Lao Shi, commonly referred to as “Gramps,” is a central character in the animated series American Dragon: Jake Long. He serves as the Dragon Master and mentor to his grandson, Jake Long, guiding him in his duties as the American Dragon. In his youth, Lao Shi was the Chinese Dragon, renowned for being the first to defeat the Dark Dragon, a formidable adversary in the magical world.
Lao Shi embodies the archetypal wise and disciplined elder, often imparting lessons through rigorous training and traditional wisdom. Despite his stern demeanor, he deeply cares for Jake and is committed to preparing him for the challenges of protecting the magical creatures of New York City. His vast knowledge of magic and combat is instrumental in Jake’s development as a dragon.
In his human form, Lao Shi appears as an elderly man with thinning white hair, thick eyebrows, and a Fu Manchu mustache. His dragon form is characterized by a long, serpentine body with blue scales and white spine ridges, reflecting traditional Chinese dragon imagery.
The character of Luong Lao Shi is voiced by Keone Young, whose performance brings depth and authenticity to the role.
