Who is Michael McBride?

Michael McBride is a central character in the 1959 Disney film Darby O’Gill and the Little People. He is a young, charming, and ambitious man who arrives in the quaint Irish village of Rathcullen to take over the caretaker duties of Lord Fitzpatrick’s estate. His arrival inadvertently threatens the position of Darby O’Gill, the current caretaker, who has been secretly hiding his inability to perform his duties due to age. Despite this, Michael is kind-hearted and respectful, forging a bond with Darby while becoming romantically involved with Darby’s spirited daughter, Katie.

Michael serves as a steadying presence amidst the film’s whimsical and fantastical elements, including Darby’s dealings with the mischievous King Brian of the Leprechauns. As the story unfolds, Michael’s bravery, integrity, and loyalty are tested when he becomes entangled in Darby’s schemes and Katie’s safety.
