Who is Mrs Which?

Mrs. Which is one of the three celestial beings who guide the protagonists in A Wrinkle in Time, Madeleine L’Engle’s classic science fiction novel.

Alongside Mrs. Whatsit and Mrs. Who, Mrs. Which aids Meg Murry, her brother Charles Wallace, and their friend Calvin O’Keefe as they journey through space and time to rescue Meg and Charles Wallace’s father from the clutches of a dark entity called IT.

Mrs. Which is portrayed as the wisest and most authoritative of the trio, often taking a maternal and advisory role. Unlike her counterparts, who appear more human-like, Mrs. Which has difficulty manifesting a physical form. She often appears as a shimmering presence or a disembodied voice, emphasizing her ethereal and transcendent nature. She represents wisdom and the power of knowing oneself, frequently encouraging Meg to embrace her flaws and find strength in her individuality.

In the 2018 Disney film adaptation of A Wrinkle in Time, Mrs. Which was played by Oprah Winfrey. Winfrey’s portrayal brought grandeur and gravitas to the character, emphasizing her role as a guiding light and a source of hope.
