Who is Orange Bird?

Orange Bird is a beloved Disney character that originated in the 1970s as part of a partnership between Walt Disney World and the Florida Citrus Commission.

Designed to promote Florida citrus products, particularly orange juice, the cheerful bird was created by Disney’s Imagineers to serve as the mascot for the Sunshine Pavilion in Adventureland at Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom. This area was also home to the iconic attraction Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room and the Tropical Serenade.

Orange Bird is characterized by his small, round, orange-colored body and a leaf sprouting from his head, giving him an adorable and distinct citrus-inspired appearance. Unlike other Disney characters, Orange Bird does not speak or sing. Instead, he communicates through thought bubbles filled with images, a creative nod to his unique personality.

The Orange Bird also appeared in various marketing materials, including songs by the Sherman Brothers and an album narrated by Anita Bryant, who was the celebrity face of Florida citrus at the time.
