Who is Professor Pierre Aronnax?
In Disney’s animated film “20,000 Leagues Under the Sea” Professor Pierre Aronnax is the protagonist of the story, a French marine biologist who joins an expedition to hunt down a giant sea monster that is devastating ships in the ocean. He is eventually captured by the mysterious Captain Nemo and taken aboard his submarine, the Nautilus, where he becomes a prisoner and is forced to witness the Captain’s underwater exploits and discoveries. He is a well-educated and respected scientist who initially sees the Nautilus and Captain Nemo as a dangerous enemy, but eventually comes to appreciate their scientific and technological wonders. The movie is based on Jules Verne’s novel “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea”. The character was played by Paul Lukas.
