Who is Roscoe?

Roscoe is a Doberman Pinscher and one of the antagonists in Disney’s animated feature Oliver & Company (1988).

Alongside his brother DeSoto, Roscoe serves as the loyal but menacing guard dog to the film’s main villain, Sykes, a ruthless loan shark. Roscoe is characterized by his brash personality and overconfidence, often taking pleasure in intimidating others, particularly the protagonist, Oliver, and his streetwise mentor, Dodger. Despite his imposing demeanor, Roscoe has a playful, almost sadistic sense of humor, and he thrives on being dominant. His bond with his brother DeSoto is evident, though Roscoe often takes the lead in their mischievous schemes.

Roscoe’s ultimate downfall comes during the film’s climactic confrontation, where he and DeSoto engage in a high-speed chase alongside Sykes. Their aggressive pursuit ends tragically as they are thrown from Sykes’ car, marking the end of their threat to Oliver and his friends.

Roscoe’s voice was brought to life by actor Taurean Blacque, best known for his role as Detective Neal Washington on the television series Hill Street Blues.
