Who is Sir Kay?

Sir Kay is a character from Disney’s animated feature film The Sword in the Stone (1963), which is an adaptation of T.H. White’s novel of the same name.

Sir Kay (The Sword in the Stone)

In the story, Sir Kay is the older foster brother of the protagonist, Arthur, also known as Wart. He is the biological son of Sir Ector and is portrayed as a boastful, somewhat oafish knight-in-training who lacks chivalry and genuine skill. Kay often teases and belittles Arthur, showing little respect for his younger foster sibling. Despite his flaws, Sir Kay’s actions inadvertently lead to Arthur pulling the legendary sword from the stone and proving himself to be the rightful King of England.

In the film, Sir Kay serves as a foil to Arthur’s humble and kind nature. While Kay is self-absorbed and focuses on outward strength and appearances, Arthur’s journey highlights the virtues of intelligence, courage, and humility.

Sir Kay was voiced by actor Norman Alden, whose gruff and exaggerated performance brought the character’s pompous and clumsy demeanor to life.
