Who is Ironheart?
Riri Williams, better known as Ironheart, is a Marvel Comics superhero introduced in 2016.
Created by writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Mike Deodato, she first appeared in Invincible Iron Man (Vol. 3) #7, later adopting the Ironheart mantle in Invincible Iron Man (Vol. 4) #3. A teenage engineering prodigy from Chicago, Riri reverse-engineers her own suit of powered armor while studying at MIT, channeling Tony Stark’s legacy into a new, self-made hero.
In live action, Riri is portrayed by Dominique Thorne. Thorne debuted as the character in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever (2022), where Riri’s homemade armor and a school project-a vibranium-detection device-draw her into conflict between Wakanda and Talokan.
Thorne returned in Marvel Television’s Ironheart miniseries on Disney+, which premiered June 24, 2025. The series follows Riri back to Chicago as she refines her suits and confronts rising criminal threats, cementing her place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
