Disney Bumps 2026 ‘Star Wars’ Film for ‘Ice Age 6’ in Major Schedule Shift”

Disney has announced a significant change to its 2026 film release schedule, removing an untitled “Star Wars” movie previously set for December 18, 2026, and replacing it with “Ice Age 6.” This decision comes after the sixth installment of the “Ice Age” franchise was officially announced during last week’s D23 Brazil event, featuring the return of original cast members Ray Romano, John Leguizamo, Queen Latifah, Denis Leary, and Simon Pegg.
The “Star Wars” film that was removed from the schedule had not been officially detailed, though it was speculated to be part of the new trilogy being developed by Simon Kinberg, which aims to continue the Skywalker Saga with Episodes 10-12.
This adjustment leaves “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” directed by Jon Favreau and set for release on May 22, 2026, as the sole “Star Wars” film for that year. Another untitled “Star Wars” movie remains scheduled for December 17, 2027.
The “Ice Age” franchise has been a significant success for Disney, with the first five films grossing over $3.2 billion worldwide. The upcoming “Ice Age 6” marks the franchise’s return to theaters in almost a decade, with its last theatrical release being “Ice Age: Collision Course” in 2016.
This strategic reshuffling underscores Disney’s commitment to balancing its diverse portfolio of franchises, ensuring optimal release windows for its major properties.
