The 96th Academy Awards, scheduled for Sunday, March 10, 2024, at 7 p.m. ET, promises to be an eventful occasion for Disney and its associated production companies. The ceremony will be held at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles, with Jimmy Kimmel hosting for the second consecutive year. Audiences can tune in to watch the Oscars on ABC.
Disney, including its branches 20th Century Studios, Lucasfilm Ltd., Marvel Studios, Pixar Animation Studios, and Searchlight Pictures, along with Disney+, Hulu, and National Geographic Documentary Films, have garnered an impressive total of 20 nominations across various categories.
“Poor Things,” a production from Searchlight Pictures, leads the pack for Disney with a notable 11 nominations, including Best Picture, Best Actress in a Leading Role (Emma Stone), and Best Director (Yorgos Lanthimos). This film has also been recognized in categories such as Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Mark Ruffalo), Best Costume Design, Best Makeup and Hairstyling, Best Music (Original Score), Best Writing (Adapted Screenplay), Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, and Best Production Design.
Pixar’s “Elemental” has been nominated for Best Animated Feature Film, while Marvel Studios’ “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” received a nod for Best Visual Effects. Lucasfilm’s “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” is competing in the Best Music (Original Score) category, thanks to John Williams’ work.
In the documentary field, “Bobi Wine: The People’s President” from National Geographic is a contender for Best Documentary Feature Film. Searchlight Pictures also brings “The Last Repair Shop” and Disney+ presents “Nǎi Nai & Wài Pó,” both vying for Best Documentary Short Film.
“The Creator,” from 20th Century Studios, has earned nominations for Best Sound and Best Visual Effects, while “Flamin’ Hot” from Searchlight Pictures, Hulu, and Disney+ is in the running for Best Music (Original Song) for “The Fire Inside,” composed and penned by Diane Warren.
This wide array of nominations showcases the diverse and dynamic range of Disney’s cinematic offerings, from animated features to documentaries and beyond. The 2024 Oscars are set to be a significant event for The Walt Disney Company, as it looks to add to its already extensive collection of Academy Awards.
