Who is Bartholomew?
Bartholomew is a minor character from Disney’s The Great Mouse Detective (1986). He is a loyal but somewhat dimwitted henchman of the film’s main antagonist, Professor Ratigan. Bartholomew is a mouse who works with Ratigan’s gang of criminals, but his role in the film is brief.
In the movie, Bartholomew’s most memorable scene involves him accidentally drinking Ratigan’s prized champagne during a toast, which enrages the villain. As punishment, Ratigan feeds Bartholomew to his pet cat, Felicia, marking a darkly comedic moment that showcases Ratigan’s cruelty.
Bartholomew was voiced by the famous actor Barrie Ingham, who also provided the voice for the film’s protagonist, Basil of Baker Street.
