Who is Coco Rivera?
Coco Rivera is a central character in Disney and Pixar’s animated film Coco. She is the beloved great-grandmother of the film’s protagonist, Miguel Rivera. The film Coco revolves around Miguel’s journey into the Land of the Dead to uncover his family’s history and repair a broken bond with music, which was banned in the Rivera family after a painful experience with Coco’s father.
Mamá Coco, as she is affectionately called, is portrayed as an elderly woman with a fading memory, yet she holds a deep connection to her family, especially with Miguel. Her story is crucial to the film’s themes of family, memory, and legacy. Through her, Miguel discovers the rich history of his family, including the love and sacrifices of her father, who was a musician.
