Who is Commander Lyle Rourke?

Commander Lyle Tiberius Rourke is the main antagonist in Disney’s 2001 animated film “Atlantis: The Lost Empire.”

Initially presented as a seasoned and trustworthy leader of the expedition to find Atlantis, Rourke’s true nature as a ruthless mercenary is revealed as the story progresses. His primary goal is to seize the Heart of Atlantis, a powerful crystal, to sell it for personal gain, showing little regard for the consequences his actions may have on the Atlantean people.

In the film, Rourke is voiced by James Garner, an actor renowned for his roles in both film and television, including “The Rockford Files” and “Maverick.”

Garner’s portrayal brings depth to Rourke’s character, effectively conveying his charismatic yet menacing demeanor. In related video game adaptations of the film, the character is voiced by Earl Boen.
