Who is Dandy Crow?
Dandy Crow is a character from Disney’s 1941 animated classic, Dumbo.
Dandy Crow, often seen as the lead of the crows that appear later in the film, helps Dumbo realize his unique ability to fly using his large ears. The crows are memorable for their lively song, When I See an Elephant Fly, which they perform to both tease and eventually encourage Dumbo.
In the original Dumbo, Dandy Crow was voiced by actor Cliff Edwards, who also famously voiced Jiminy Cricket in Pinocchio. However, Dandy Crow has since become a controversial character due to cultural sensitivities around the portrayal of the crows. The character has not been included in newer Dumbo adaptations, including the 2019 live-action remake, where the crows were omitted entirely to avoid reinforcing outdated stereotypes.
