Who is Delilah?
Delilah is a character from the animated TV series Gargoyles, which aired in the 1990s. She is a hybrid gargoyle created by Dr. Anton Sevarius through genetic engineering, using DNA from both the gargoyle Demona and the human Elisa Maza. This unique blend gives Delilah a mixed appearance, combining features of both characters, but she also has a personality distinctly different from either.
Delilah is often seen as mild-mannered, subservient, and somewhat reserved, lacking the fierce independence or strong will that characterizes her genetic “parents.”
Delilah was created as part of a larger experiment to manipulate the gargoyles, and she initially serves as a pawn in various schemes. However, her interactions with the Manhattan Clan (the main group of gargoyles in the series) lead her to develop a sense of self, offering her a chance to explore her individuality beyond her origins.
In the Gargoyles series, Delilah is voiced by actress Salli Richardson-Whitfield, who also voiced Elisa Maza. This dual role highlights the genetic connection between the two characters while allowing Richardson-Whitfield to bring a distinct voice and nuance to Delilah’s character, differentiating her from Elisa.
