Who is Demona?
Demona is one of the main antagonists in the animated TV series Gargoyles, which aired in the 1990s. She is a cunning and powerful female gargoyle who was once part of the same clan as the series’ hero, Goliath.
Originally named simply “Angel of the Night,” Demona fought alongside her clan to protect the humans of medieval Scotland. However, over time, her bitterness and hatred toward humans grew after they repeatedly betrayed and attacked her kind, leading her down a dark path.
Throughout the series, Demona is driven by vengeance, believing humanity to be the root cause of her people’s suffering and near extinction. She is immortal, thanks to a pact she made with the villainous sorcerer Macbeth and is forced to live out the centuries with her growing resentment toward humans and her former friends. Despite her antagonism, her character is complex, shaped by past traumas, loneliness, and her deep internal conflict about her loyalties to her kind.
Demona is voiced by Marina Sirtis, who is best known for her role as Deanna Troi in Star Trek: The Next Generation. Sirtis’s portrayal of Demona brings a nuanced intensity to the character, capturing her rage, sorrow, and tragic complexity, which helped make Demona one of the most memorable characters in Gargoyles.
