Who is Doli?
Doli is a character from Disney’s animated film The Black Cauldron, which is based on Lloyd Alexander’s The Chronicles of Prydain book series.
Doli is a member of the Fair Folk, a race of small, magical creatures who live underground and possess various magical abilities, including invisibility. Unlike the other Fair Folk, who are generally cheerful, Doli is known for his grumpy, no-nonsense attitude and often complains about the responsibilities he’s asked to take on.
In the film, Doli assists the young protagonist, Taran, in his quest to stop the evil Horned King from obtaining the Black Cauldron. Despite his gruff exterior, Doli proves to be a loyal ally and even saves the group on multiple occasions with his knowledge and magical skills.
Doli was voiced by John Byner, who brought a distinctive gruffness and humor to the character, helping to make Doli a memorable part of The Black Cauldron’s ensemble. The character adds a mix of comic relief and expertise to the story, embodying the often-irritable but ultimately helpful mentor archetype.
