Who is Dr. Nigel Channing?
Dr. Nigel Channing is a character featured in the “Journey into Imagination with Figment” attraction series at Epcot in Walt Disney World. He is the fictional head of the Imagination Institute, which serves as the setting for the attraction. Dr. Channing is known for his eccentric, enthusiastic personality and his mission to explore and inspire creativity.
Originally introduced in the “Honey, I Shrunk the Audience” attraction in the 1990s, Dr. Channing was later integrated into the “Journey into Imagination” attraction when it was reimagined as “Journey into Imagination with Figment.” In this version, he leads guests through the Imagination Institute, where he introduces them to various senses and how they fuel imagination, often clashing with Figment, the playful purple dragon who embodies unbridled creativity.
The character of Dr. Nigel Channing is portrayed by British actor Eric Idle, a member of the iconic comedy troupe Monty Python.
