Who is Dr. Terminus?
Dr. Terminus is a flamboyant, scheming character from the 1977 Disney movie Pete’s Dragon.
Played by actor Jim Dale, Dr. Terminus is a traveling quack doctor who arrives in the small town of Passamaquoddy with his assistant, Hoagy. Together, they are intent on conning the townsfolk with a variety of dubious potions and tonics, which he claims have miraculous healing powers. Terminus, a fast-talking charlatan with a knack for theatrics, sees an opportunity for even greater fortune when he learns about Elliott, the friendly dragon who has become a companion to the orphaned Pete.
Dr. Terminus is fascinated by Elliott and views the magical creature as a potential goldmine, planning to capture and sell various parts of the dragon’s body for their “medicinal” properties. He imagines an enormous profit, given the rarity of a dragon and the public’s fascination with mythical creatures. His obsession with Elliott’s supposed value shows his ruthless ambition, highlighting his lack of concern for anyone other than himself.
