Who is Emile?

Emile is a lovable and memorable character from Disney-Pixar’s Ratatouille. He’s the easygoing, slightly dim-witted but warm-hearted older brother of the movie’s main character, Remy.

Emile is a brown, round rat with a deep love for food—especially if it’s something edible he can find in the garbage, even if it’s not gourmet! Unlike Remy, who dreams of becoming a chef and has a sophisticated palate, Emile is content with whatever he can find to eat, showing little interest in the art of fine cooking. His humorous and carefree personality provides a counterbalance to Remy’s ambitious nature, and he often tries to keep Remy grounded, although he is ultimately supportive of his brother’s dreams.

The character of Emile is voiced by comedian and actor Peter Sohn, who brought a delightful warmth and humor to the role. Sohn’s distinctive voice helps make Emile an endearing character, capturing his laid-back attitude and love of eating. Interestingly, Peter Sohn also works as an animator and director at Pixar, contributing to several other Pixar films beyond just his voice work.
