Who is Flit?
Flit is a hummingbird and one of Pocahontas’ loyal animal companions in Disney’s animated film Pocahontas, released in 1995.
Known for his small size and fast, darting movements, Flit often acts as a watchful, protective figure to Pocahontas. His cautious and serious demeanor contrasts with the playful nature of Meeko, Pocahontas’ raccoon companion. While Flit disapproves of Meeko’s mischievous antics, he nevertheless accompanies him in many adventures. Together, they provide comic relief and balance to the film’s more serious themes of love, cultural conflict, and nature.
Unlike some animated characters who have voice actors, Flit does not have spoken lines. Instead, his personality is conveyed through expressive sounds, which were created by sound designer and voice artist Frank Welker. Known for his extensive work in animation, Welker used chirps, hums, and other sound effects to bring Flit’s energetic character to life.
