Who is Herb Muddlefoot?

Herb Muddlefoot is a character from the Disney animated series Darkwing Duck, which aired in the early 1990s.

Herb is the friendly, albeit somewhat clueless, next-door neighbor of the show’s protagonist, Drake Mallard, who also secretly operates as the superhero Darkwing Duck. Herb embodies the quintessential “neighborly dad” stereotype—he’s gregarious, cheerful, and completely oblivious to the action-packed world of crime-fighting next door. This often places him in humorous situations where he’s unknowingly tangled up in Darkwing’s adventures.

Herb is married to Binkie Muddlefoot and is the father of two sons: Tank, the older, rebellious son, and Honker, the younger, geeky one. Honker becomes best friends with Gosalyn, Drake’s adopted daughter, creating a recurring connection between the Muddlefoot and Mallard families. Herb’s personality is the polar opposite of Darkwing’s; he’s cheerful, easygoing, and totally lacking in suspicion, which makes for some fun comedic exchanges with the more high-strung Drake.

Herb Muddlefoot was voiced by actor Jim Cummings, who also voiced Darkwing Duck himself. Cummings, a renowned voice actor, brought both characters to life with distinctive voices, showcasing his impressive vocal range and ability to embody multiple personalities in the same series.
