In the film, Hiram Flaversham is a kind and gentle toymaker and the loving father of Olivia Flaversham, a young mouse. He is known for his remarkable skill in creating mechanical toys, a craft that eventually puts him in danger. Early in the story, Hiram is kidnapped by the villainous Professor Ratigan, who wants to use Hiram’s expertise to build a life-sized clockwork replica of the Queen of Mousedom. This robot is central to Ratigan’s plan to overthrow the Queen and seize control of the city.

Hiram’s capture sets off the main storyline, as his daughter Olivia seeks the help of Basil of Baker Street, a brilliant detective mouse, to rescue him. Despite his captivity, Hiram remains brave, ultimately risking his life to sabotage Ratigan’s plan from within. His love for his daughter and his quiet heroism underscore his importance in the narrative.

The voice of Hiram Flaversham was brought to life by actor Alan Young, a Scottish-American performer best known for his role as Wilbur in the Mister Ed television series and as the voice of Scrooge McDuck in Disney’s DuckTales.
