Who is John Carter?
John Carter is the protagonist of John Carter, a 2012 science fiction and fantasy film based on Edgar Rice Burroughs’ novel A Princess of Mars.
John Carter is a former Confederate soldier from the American Civil War who, after a series of mysterious events, finds himself transported to Mars (referred to as Barsoom by its inhabitants). On Mars, Carter discovers that he possesses incredible strength and agility due to the planet’s lower gravity. This newfound power enables him to jump great distances and become a formidable warrior.
As he navigates the strange landscapes and diverse cultures of Mars, Carter becomes embroiled in a conflict between the planet’s warring factions. He forms alliances with the Tharks, a race of towering, green-skinned Martians, and falls in love with Dejah Thoris, a princess of the humanoid Red Martians. Carter’s journey from a disillusioned soldier on Earth to a heroic figure on Mars is a tale of redemption, courage, and self-discovery. He ultimately fights to save Barsoom from destruction and prove himself a worthy champion for its people.
Taylor Kitsch, known for his role in the television series Friday Night Lights, brought John Carter to life on screen.
