Who is Lampwick?

Lampwick is a supporting character from Disney’s animated classic Pinocchio (1940). He is a mischievous and rebellious boy who befriends Pinocchio on their ill-fated journey to Pleasure Island.

Lampwick embodies a carefree and self-indulgent attitude, encouraging Pinocchio to engage in delinquent activities like smoking, drinking, and gambling while they explore the hedonistic attractions of the island. However, his behavior comes with dire consequences. Like the other boys who misbehave on Pleasure Island, Lampwick is transformed into a donkey as punishment, a harrowing moment that serves as a dark turning point in the story. His cries for help and eventual full transformation highlight the dangers of succumbing to temptation and abandoning one’s moral compass.

In the original animated film, Lampwick was voiced by Frankie Darro, a prominent child and young adult actor known for his work in films during the 1930s and 1940s.
