Who is Lawrence the Valet?

Lawrence the Valet is a key character in Disney’s The Princess and the Frog (2009), serving as the secondary antagonist in the film. He is the bumbling and conniving servant of Prince Naveen, and his role is central to the plot’s conflict.

Lawrence harbors deep resentment toward Naveen due to years of perceived mistreatment and disregard for his efforts. His bitterness leads him to join forces with the film’s primary villain, Dr. Facilier, in a scheme to gain wealth and social standing.

As part of the plot, Dr. Facilier uses dark magic to transform Lawrence into a doppelgänger of Prince Naveen using a magical talisman. This allows Lawrence to impersonate the prince and trick Charlotte La Bouff into marrying him, granting access to her family’s fortune. However, Lawrence’s greed and clumsiness ultimately contribute to the unraveling of the plan.

The character is voiced by British actor Peter Bartlett, whose performance blends comedic timing with a sense of desperation and malice. Bartlett’s portrayal of Lawrence is memorable for its exaggerated mannerisms and humor, making him a standout supporting character in this modern Disney classic.
