Who is Lord Dingwall?
Lord Dingwall is a character from Disney and Pixar’s 2012 animated feature film Brave. He is one of the three clan leaders who arrive at Castle DunBroch to present their sons as suitors for Princess Merida’s hand in marriage, as part of a long-standing tradition.
Known for his fiery temper and feisty personality, Lord Dingwall is a small, wiry man with a sharp tongue and a strong Scottish accent. Despite his size, he exudes confidence and is fiercely protective of his son, Wee Dingwall, whom he believes to be a worthy contender for Merida’s hand.
Wee Dingwall, though physically unimposing and comically awkward, surprises everyone by winning an archery contest, fulfilling the requirements to compete for Merida. Lord Dingwall takes great pride in his son’s success, often engaging in humorous and over-the-top exchanges with the other clan leaders. His character provides much of the comic relief in the film.
Lord Dingwall is voiced by Scottish actor Robbie Coltrane, renowned for his portrayal of Hagrid in the Harry Potter series. Coltrane brings a vibrant energy to the role, capturing the character’s quick wit and bold demeanor. Lord Dingwall’s spirited antics make him a memorable addition to Brave’s colorful cast of characters.
