Who is Lucky?

Lucky is one of the most memorable puppies from Disney’s One Hundred and One Dalmatians.

Known for his distinctive black ears and plucky personality, Lucky stands out among Pongo and Perdita’s 15 puppies. His name reflects his survival of a near-death experience shortly after his birth when Roger, the Radcliffe family patriarch, revives him. This moment symbolizes his resilience and good fortune, qualities that define his character throughout the story. Lucky is also portrayed as a television enthusiast, often seen glued to the screen, idolizing Thunderbolt, the heroic dog featured on the show-within-a-movie.

Lucky’s adventurous and determined nature makes him one of the fan-favorite pups, especially during the daring escape from Cruella de Vil’s clutches. He shows courage and loyalty, even in the face of danger.

In Disney’s original 1961 animated film, Lucky was voiced by Mimi Gibson, a child actor who lent her voice to many Disney productions during the era. In subsequent adaptations, the character has been reinterpreted in various ways. In the 1996 live-action 101 Dalmatians, Lucky appears as one of the puppies, but without a specific voice actor, as the puppies are portrayed through real animals. His animated origins, however, remain iconic in Disney’s rich legacy of beloved characters.
