Who is Orgoch?

Orgoch is one of the three enchantresses known as the Fairfolk sisters in The Black Cauldron, a 1985 animated Disney film based on Lloyd Alexander’s Chronicles of Prydain.

Orgoch, along with her sisters Orwen and Orddu, resides in the Marshes of Morva. The trio serves as powerful and eccentric witches who possess the titular Black Cauldron, a magical artifact with the power to resurrect the dead. Orgoch’s character is notable for her dark, ominous demeanor and her constant bickering with her sisters, particularly over her love for turning others into toads for a snack.

Unlike the more maternal Orwen or the pragmatic Orddu, Orgoch embodies a sinister yet comedic edge, adding an eerie humor to the sisters’ dynamic. Though the Fairfolk play a morally ambiguous role, they ultimately aid the protagonist, Taran, by trading the Black Cauldron in exchange for his magical sword.

In the film, Orgoch was voiced by Billie Hayes, an actress celebrated for her unique voice and animated performances.
