Who is Orwen?

Orwen is one of the three witches in Disney’s The Black Cauldron (1985), a dark fantasy film adapted from Lloyd Alexander’s The Chronicles of Prydain.

Alongside her sisters Orgoch and Orddu, Orwen resides in the Marshes of Morva, where the trio are known for their magical abilities and cryptic behavior. The three witches are central to the story, as they possess the titular Black Cauldron, an ancient and powerful artifact capable of raising an army of the dead.

Among the sisters, Orwen is characterized by her comical romantic infatuation with the protagonist, Fflewddur Fflam. Her interactions bring humor to the otherwise eerie and ominous atmosphere of the Marshes of Morva. She is a peculiar blend of flirtation and eccentricity, distinguishing herself from her stern and sinister sisters.

Orwen was voiced by legendary actress Adele Malis-Morey. Her portrayal brought an entertaining and quirky personality to the character, providing a lighter, albeit still eerie, tone to her scenes.
