Who are Pain and Panic?
Pain and Panic are the mischievous, bumbling sidekicks of Hades, the god of the Underworld, in Disney’s 1997 animated film Hercules. They serve as comic relief in the movie and provide a contrast to the dark and brooding personality of their master.
Pain, the purple, rotund demon, is known for his over-the-top expressions and clumsiness, while Panic, the thin, teal demon with a perpetually anxious demeanor, constantly worries about the consequences of their failures. Together, they undertake Hades’ orders, including the task of eliminating Hercules, but their incompetence leads to humorous mishaps.
Pain and Panic are instrumental in Hades’ plan to overthrow Zeus and rule Olympus. They are tasked with feeding baby Hercules a potion to strip him of his godhood, but when their plan goes awry, Hercules retains his extraordinary strength. Despite their repeated blunders, Pain and Panic remain loyal to Hades, though they fear his wrath.
Bobcat Goldthwait provides the voice for Pain, bringing his signature raspy and comedic delivery to the character. Matt Frewer voices Panic, infusing him with a jittery and nervous energy that perfectly complements Goldthwait’s performance. Their dynamic duo adds a layer of humor and charm to the film, making them memorable characters in Disney’s pantheon of animated villains.
