Who is Papá Rivera?

Papá Rivera is a pivotal character in Disney-Pixar’s Coco (2017). He is part of the Rivera family, a shoemaking dynasty in Santa Cecilia, Mexico. Papá Rivera is the father of Miguel, the film’s protagonist, and the husband of Luisa Rivera. A traditional and loving family man, Papá Rivera supports the family’s strict no-music rule, which stems from a painful generational story. Despite this, his love for his family is evident, and he works hard to provide a stable and nurturing environment for Miguel.

Throughout Coco, Papá Rivera’s character underscores the importance of family unity and tradition, even as Miguel struggles to reconcile his passion for music with his family’s expectations. Though Papá Rivera is not the central focus of the film, his role highlights the generational dynamics within the Rivera family and contributes to the story’s emotional depth.

The character of Papá Rivera is voiced by Jaime Camil, a well-known Mexican actor, singer, and television personality.
