Who is Penny?

Penny is a key character in Disney’s 2008 animated film Bolt. She is the young owner and best friend of the titular character, Bolt, a dog who believes he has superpowers due to his role in a TV series.

Penny’s deep bond with Bolt drives much of the emotional core of the movie. In the TV series within the film, Penny is portrayed as a brave and determined girl frequently finding herself in danger, relying on Bolt’s “powers” to rescue her. However, off-screen, Penny is a loving and kind-hearted individual who cares for Bolt as a normal dog, not as the superhero he believes himself to be.

Penny becomes a pivotal figure in Bolt’s journey when he inadvertently gets separated from her, leading him on a cross-country adventure to reunite. Throughout the movie, her unwavering love and loyalty inspire Bolt to overcome his misconceptions and discover his true self.

Penny was voiced by two actresses: Chloe Grace Moretz provided her voice during the opening scenes of the movie, depicting Penny as a younger character, while Miley Cyrus voiced the character for the majority of the film. Miley Cyrus also performed the film’s emotional song “I Thought I Lost You,” further cementing her association with Penny.
