Who is Philoctetes?

Philoctetes, affectionately known as “Phil,” is a pivotal character in Disney’s animated film Hercules (1997). He is a grumpy, wise-cracking satyr who serves as the legendary trainer of heroes.

Despite his small stature, Phil has an outsized personality, characterized by his quick wit, gruff demeanor, and a surprising depth of heart. His ultimate dream is to train a hero who achieves immortal fame, a goal he believes will immortalize his name in the stars.
