Who is Prissy the Elephant?
Prissy the Elephant is a minor but memorable character from Disney’s classic animated film Dumbo (1941). She is one of the elephants in the circus herd, known for her haughty and gossipy personality. Prissy is part of the “elephant matriarchs” who initially reject Dumbo due to his large ears, adding to the ridicule he faces early in the story. Alongside the other elephants, she helps to create a social dynamic that underscores Dumbo’s outsider status.
Prissy is characterized by her prim and proper demeanor, often acting as though she is above everyone else. She frequently partakes in spreading gossip among the elephants and is quick to judge. While Prissy doesn’t play a significant role in the central plot, her interactions with the other elephants emphasize Dumbo’s struggle for acceptance, making her an integral part of the film’s emotional undertone.
Prissy was voiced by actress Sarah Selby, whose vocal performance brought a sophisticated yet snooty charm to the character.
