Who is Professor Zündapp?

Professor Zündapp, often referred to simply as “Professor Z,” is a key antagonist in Disney-Pixar’s Cars 2. He is a sinister German scientist and a high-ranking member of the villainous group behind the “Big Oil” conspiracy.

Professor Zündapp is an old Zündapp Janus microcar, a choice that complements his intellectual yet devious persona. Known for his sharp wit, calculating demeanor, and thick German accent, Professor Zündapp masterminds much of the plot to discredit the alternative fuel Allinol by causing race cars to explode during the World Grand Prix. His ultimate goal, along with his cohorts, is to ensure the dominance of fossil fuels by sabotaging renewable energy.

The character’s design and demeanor are inspired by classic mad scientists, with a monocle and a calm but menacing voice that convey his cold, ruthless nature. Professor Zündapp’s involvement in the scheme brings him face-to-face with Mater, Finn McMissile, and Holley Shiftwell, adding an element of high-stakes espionage to the film’s narrative.

Professor Zündapp is voiced by actor Thomas Kretschmann, a German actor known for his work in both Hollywood and European cinema. Kretschmann’s performance imbues the character with a mix of intellect and malevolence, making him a memorable villain in the Cars franchise.
