Who is Roger Rabbit?

Roger Rabbit is the titular character from Disney’s Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988), a groundbreaking film that blends live-action with animation.

Produced by Walt Disney Studios under its Touchstone Pictures label, the movie is based on Gary K. Wolf’s 1981 novel Who Censored Roger Rabbit? and directed by Robert Zemeckis. Set in a whimsical 1940s Hollywood where animated characters (referred to as “Toons”) and humans coexist, Roger Rabbit is a comedic, anthropomorphic white rabbit with a bow tie, blue overalls, and a flair for slapstick antics.

Roger is a toon movie star framed for the murder of Marvin Acme, the owner of Toontown, and seeks the help of detective Eddie Valiant to clear his name. Roger is characterized by his zany personality, unshakable optimism, and undying devotion to his glamorous wife, Jessica Rabbit. Despite his klutzy nature, Roger’s heart and loyalty make him a beloved character.

In the film, Roger Rabbit was voiced by Charles Fleischer, who brought the character’s high-energy personality to life. Fleischer even physically acted out some of Roger’s scenes on set to help the live-action actors interact with the animated character.
